The only "exotic stuff" that I can think of, which might include external dependencies is the font selection (try the font-* examples in the Regressions Test document and maybe the example in http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.6/examples.html with Japanese(?) title). Also, you may want to try lilypond-book together with LaTeX (there's an example in Section "3.
