Yes I can now that I read erik's email, The lilypond file in scribus looked like a few files mashed together, which I understand now is because the svg doesn't support mutiple pages.
they ran it through a parser and got errors, which I assume had to do with the multiple page issue. I tried however a smaller file and it still didn't look good in scribus. I wonder if there is a way to save it with better settings in inkscape so scribus will read it? In either case I have switched from png to pdf for scribus and for the time being it is a better choice. If I had any money I would gladly join in to sponser better svg support but there is little hope of that...
