In Linux, you can view the Postscript file if you use a
recent version of Ghostscript (note that GSView in Windows
and gv and ghostview in Linux just are interface programs
that internally use ghostscript to actually show the postscript).
So, I tried to upgrade ghostscript (and the corresponding GSView)
in Windows, but it didn't help. I tried both AFPL version 8.51 and
GPL version 8.15 but both give error messages (included below).
Finally, I tried to let GSView use the ghostscript included in
the LilyPond package, but still got similar error messages.
I don't realize why one and the same ghostscript version works
well in Linux but fails in Windows for the LilyPond generated PS
files. Can anyone provide a hint?
The error message when using AFPL version 8.51 was:

Hi Bertalan,
Thanks for your reply.
Using the PDF file is not possible for updating since Lilypond deletes
the old PDF before writing the new one which means closing the pdf
before running lilypond. So viewing the postscript file is the way to
go. As I said before gsview for some reason is unable to display
lilypond .ps files and as far as I can see is really the only postscript
viewer for windows.
VSD replied earlier saying there was a view postscript command in
lily4jedit which I use with lilypond. He said that this is doesn't work
with the latest lily4jedit version (0.2.8-6) which I'm also using...
with windows native version 2.7 of lilypond.
Regards,
Trent

Regarding PDF viewing, I'm trying to embed multivalent
(www.sourceforge.net/projects/multivalent) into lily4jedit, but its
developer just don't release his latest version, which I would need.
Perhaps you should write some feature request or into the general
discussion forums, to make him release.
Another possible solution is to use gsview (GhostScript viewer) to
view the PDF (setting it as the external PDF viewer in lily4jedit).
However, I don't know how to configure it to use point-and-click.
(It would be very-very good if someone gave a hint.)

Please make a bug tracker at www.sourceforge.net/projects/lily4jedit
