Thanks - that's perfect. The difficulty I had was that I couldn't figure out what class of object an accent is. I had already tried \override TextScript.avoid-slur = #'inside but this of course doesn't work. I couldn't find out from the documentation how accents etc. are classified, although I expect it is there somewhere. David
