is still equivalent to
\new Staff \fixed c'' { \voices 4,2 << { e8( f~2.) } \\ { e8( f d2.) } >> }
and at least in this particular example (which probably isn't an example
where you would want all stems down anyway), the result is slightly less
ugly using \voices 2,4 than \voices 4,2:
