Hey Paul, \lheel is what I had in mind, except it looks more like a "U," while I am used to seeing something a bit flatter. I'm surprised there isn't something for this as it's not so uncommon in jazz.
But, I might have found something that kind of works: instead of ^\lheel (^ ensures it is above the note), I am using ^"◡". After a quick google search, I found out there is ascii code for the lower half of a circle. I feel like this is a good, 90% solution.
