Hi Luis -- I don't think ec-fonts is part of this problem. Looks like you are crashing while Metafont is trying to generate a feta font -- that shouldn't involve ec-fonts at all. What is happening is that not only is Metafont failing, but it is not even generating a log. Do you get clean results for the following:
mf --version If your system can't find mf or if mf itself crashes, then it'll be small wonder that mftrace is choking.
