still, lilyponddefs.tex and the font's weren't found, though they are were they're supposed to be. Could there be something wrong with lilypond-book itself?
No, but with your lilypond installation. Do you get any warnings when you start the cygwin shell?
What does the command printenv TEXMF return?
Do you, by chance, have TeX Live or any other TeX installation in Windows? I think that's the only situation I have seen where you could get these problems.
What happens if you run the command source /etc/profile.d/lilypond-profile.sh and then try the lilypond-book command.
