Hi list. I am new to LilyPond. I am trying to understand spacer rests and global block. I know that you can use the global block to handle things like tempo and time throughout a piece however regardless of what I try it always seems to create an extra unnecessary staff. Of course I tried to combine my global variable with my music variable using << >> but the staff still remains added extra and all my music gets "erased" by the spacer rests. Clearly I am doing something wrong. I have two questions please.
1) Using Frescobaldi's template creation, it automatically separates out the global block into the parts, not the staff. Do I need to delete these and move the global to the score block in order to use correctly? Or how can I add global to existing template code below? I am confused sorry. 2) What is the formula for determining the spacer rest? For example, when I see s8*3, what does that mean? What does each number mean in sx*y? Thank you for your advice. Here is Frescobaldi's default global block handling. I can't get it to work << >> \version "2.19.81" global = { \key c \major \numericTimeSignature \time 4/4 \tempo "Fast!" s1*4 \tempo "Largo" s1*3 \tempo "Allegro" } cello = \relative c { \global % Music follows here. c d e f e d c d e f e d c d e f e d } right = \relative c'' { \global % Music follows here. c1 d e f c d e f } left = \relative c' { \global % Music follows here. c1 d e f c d e f } celloPart = \new Staff \with { instrumentName = "Cello" } { \clef bass \cello } pianoPart = \new PianoStaff \with { instrumentName = "Piano" } << \new Staff = "right" \right \new Staff = "left" { \clef bass \left } >> \score { << \celloPart \pianoPart >> \layout { } } -- Sent from: http://lilypond.1069038.n5.nabble.com/User-f3.html _______________________________________________ lilypond-user mailing list lilypond-user@gnu.org https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user
