If you take a look at http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-user/2004-11/msg00713.html you'll see that the 'TeX' method is not perfect. Personally I look forward to Unicode 2.6 version, as described here: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-devel/2004-11/msg00310.html This will eventually solve any font related issues, I suppose.
