this is what I do with mine :
\context Voice \notes {
\set Staff.minimumVerticalExtent = #'(0 . 0)
to have it very close to the notes. Actually, I've never used it with other
figures !
(I use Lily 2.2.5)

Hello.
Is there an "\override" (for v2.2.6) to make the figured bass
numbers closer to the annotated staff?
I tried
\override FiguredBass.BassFigure #'padding = #-4
but it didn't seem to do anything.
