someone mentioned off-list that i should send a minimal example, apologies
so:

\mark \markup \rounded-box "x" c1
\mark \markup \rounded-box "x" g'1
\mark \markup \rounded-box "x" a,1

the three boxes are all at different heights
i'm hoping there is a simple "global" way to make them all the same, for
the entire score
i guess the question is about absolute positioning as much as alignment,
though mostly i want all of the boxes to be vertically aligned with each
other (i'm not super concerned what spacing is decided on)
i'm sure this is a f.a.q. but i can't find it
i have a sense the answer is perhaps either in

or
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.19/Documentation/notation/aligning-objects#setting-x_002doffset-and-y_002doffset-directly
but i am not expert enough to work out how to apply either of these
