I myself should also clarify that what I've been trying to do the whole 
time is get the midi file to playback dynamics properly, not merely fit 
them between the staves in a midi file. I think I didn't explain myself 
properly, I just assumed. I tried using your code as well, but could 
hear no differences in volume when I played back the file.
