I also write codas on a new line in this way.
You can do so by using another score.

Especially with this type of coda concept, you will probably want to be
able to address all the usual things regarding the spacing and layout, bar
numbering, markup, etc. that make the coda visually distinct from the rest
of the score.

These properties are all available if you use another score.  I'd want to
suggest that any suggestion to simplify the repeat syntax includes
consideration of how to allow specification for some of these properties.
