Tbh, I've no clue why this happens. You could correct it with: \new Staff { c'4 d' e' f' g' f' e' d' \newSpacingSection %% the value 1.68 was found by try and error \override Score.SpacingSpanner.spacing-increment = #1.68 << {c'4 d' e' f' g' f' e' d'} \new Voice { \makeClusters {c'4 d' e' f' g' f' e' d'} } >> \newSpacingSection \revert Score.SpacingSpanner.spacing-increment c'4 d' e' f' g' f' e' d' } HTH a bit, Harm
