Thanks! That fixed the landscape paper problem. You're my new hero.
I copied the \paper {landscape} thing from the Lilypond snippet
repository. Evidently the snippets
have garbage code in 'em.
Anyway, no matter, now it's clear what was wrong & how to fix it.
