It’s not really setting to 0 but LilyPond does the spacing from the center of one staff to the center of the next. And your staves are extremely high so there is no space left. Have a look at section 4.1.4 of the Notation Reference and for a good visualisation of LilyPond’s vertical spacing at http://joramberger.de/files/LilypondSpacing.pdf
And as Harm said: Please post code that compiles (if possible). Your last measure in the left hand brings an error.
