Hi Malte, Many thanks to you. Although I had said I did not want to fudge this scenario by shiftng the notes to make them miss the crossStaff alignment, I was unaware that the sensitivty of crossStaff is so high, and this small move not only works just fine to suppress the crossStaff but is completely unobservable. Not such a bad hack after all. One could even create a function \crossStaffOff and just use this. Quite acceptable I think.
