Thank you for these suggestions, I will (re-)consider them. However, I have of course already experimented quite a lot, and it's pretty difficult. There is very little room for displacements in order to keep some regularity in spacing and to prevent collisions. For example: if I'd start the second line more to the left (to achieve that diagonal "OL" relation) the "i", particularly the dot, would collide with the "p" from the first line, or the "i" would be ridiculously far away from the "L". Or: if I wouldn't want to join the "flat" with the "y" exactly like it is now the flat would have to move really far away in order to prevent an ugly collision. So I think there is already a pretty good balance of how the vertical strokes get some regularity and how the various things "interlock". While I see your point I doubt it's possible.
