I do not completely understand. My interpretation is, that lilypnd is deling the

[ bes'8 e,] as a quarter note? I used the square brackets to separate the group from the other two notes

(e) g,

Without the brackets I get it grouped different - for me that does not look nice, but I can live with \relative c { \key c \major \clef "bass_8" r4 bes, bes'8 e, (e) g, } An alternative might be: r4 bes, bes'8 e,4 g, } Thank you!
