Sorry for not checking before, but \editionMod actually accepts a fraction or a moment for the position in measure. So: \editionMod fullscore 24 #(ly:make-moment 0/4 -1/8) the.swan.Staff.C \once \override NoteHead.color = #red *does* color the grace not red! One thing to be careful about is *not* to write a space after the "-".
