Sorry, I must have left something out, I think the second "$". What this does is drill through to latex to use math symbols. It's not lilypond really, but it is still tolerated. \markup doesn't do \textcircled, or smallcaps, as of 2.1.32. I hope that this will continue to work. These just worked on lilypond 2.1.32: c'4^"$\\!\\!\\textcircled{4}$" c'4^"$\\!\\!\\large{\\textcircled{\\textsc{e}}}$" The $---$ surround the latex commands, which are double slashed. \textsc is smallcaps, which are nice for strings for more advanced players, because you can lose some numbers. (If it's good enough for Villa Lobos it's good enough for me.) these, "\\!", are backspacing, because the left edge of the ring is aligned instead of its contents. daveA -- Paying more at the gas pump?
