If you run ly2dvi -k and check the LaTeX wrapper file
ly2dvi.dir/ClarinettoI.latex that ly2dvi generates and uses,
you will notice that it includes the line
\geometry{twosideshift=4mm}
which means that LaTeX turns into double sided mode and shifts
odd pages 4mm to the right and even pages 4mm to the left.The reason that this setting is used seems to be an unintended(?) interaction between a patch to ly2dvi from 2001 (see http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg05450.html) and the recent addition of 'compat2' to 'latexoptions' to make ly2dvi compatible with both old and new versions of the geometry package in LaTeX.
I actually consider this a bug in the initial patch from 2001, since the twosideshift option should only be set (if even then) if the header field 'latexoptions' includes the option 'twoside' and not otherwise.
I'm sending this also to bug-lilypond, since the computer I used to use when developing and submitting small patches in CVS is broken and I haven't had the time to set up the environment on any other computer.

unfortunately you have to do it exactly as described here, which is not very intuitive (or you could just remove your setting since the default, as already said, is A4).
