I should stress that the low-level parts of this patch need to mix three memory management models: Guile GC, C++ RAII, GLib refcounting. While I have done my best to make sure each one is used correctly, this is the kind of patch on which I would particularly appreciate some review. I'm fine with leaving more time than until Saturday if it helps. It's a large patch, after all.
