For what it's worth: I like that design (only having looked at the style-test.zip file) a lot. It's unobtrusive, yet makes it easier to parse the structure of a code sample at first glance.
Of course, that doesn't help at all with the issues raised by John (about which I cannot provide any helpful insights).
