Interesting, for me it works, see attached file.

I use
XeTeX 3.141592653-2.6-0.999993 (TeX Live 2021)
kpathsea version 6.3.3
However, the bug might also be in `xdvipdfmx` (I use version
20210318), the DVI driver of xetex to create the PDF file.
