How about managing this through the bug-list itself? The bug-squad would
then answer to bug reports and:
– when accepting them, edit the subject line into something like "Issue
4570: <Wrong output>" so we can keep track of the numbering correctly
– insert the normal metadata (label, status etc.) in separate lines at
the beginning of the reply body text (and repeat or keep at the top
within every reply to the thread)
At least within my setup (Mozilla Thunderbird) this would be quite
manageable. When the new tracker will be setup, we’ll have to feed in
the data from the mailing list – that’s suboptimal, but feasible as long
as the transitioning doesn’t take overly long.
Another drawback is that there will be no formal restrictions for
anybody to mess with the data. Hopefully, that would be controlled by
the public visibility of postings.
