Subject: Inconsistent placement on notes of Articulation scripts?
Hello,
While generating a patch for more comprehensive appendix on Articulation
Scripts I noticed that the \marcato and \stacatissimo scripts print
'over the top' (inside?) the staff when, for example, the \accent and
\espressivo don't. Likewise \Portato also doesn't print inside the staff
but \stacato and \tenuto do.
Is this incorrect engraving for \marcato and/or \stacatissimo or just
that those two particular marks are by convention allowed to print
inside the staff?
See attached.
James
These all look as per Gould. It looks like the rule is that articulations
with small vertical extents follow noteheads where appropriate: those with
larger extents would collide with staff bars, which would be a Bad Thing.
