Hi, I would like to add some thoughts to that:
1.) What I use (and what is probably the most frequent case) are: a) \repeat {} and \alternative { {} {} } % repeats b) \bar "||" % new section c) \bar "|." % end of staff The first is syntactical the others are bar lines. Syntactical elements for all three would be nice. 2.) I would find it intuitive to decouple musical syntax and bar line definitions. -> Use a syntactical command for a) - c), but define new barlines as WYSIWYG like Marc did. 3.) I repeat my suggestion to auto-define barlines with a default behaviour for different break-cases just from the name (if not defined otherwise). 4.) Adding more syntax elements like coda is a good idea, but it probably needs some iterations to reach an intuitively usable, simple and robust way of doing so. As it is more like a "goto" statement, it is probably difficult to cover all situations with a music function of the parts. Having commands (not LSR snippets) producing the symbols would be a first step, even if that would not be followed by the midi output in a first place.
