What about a news item about Enseble 101's tour? It seems reasonable to me; a short notice without "advertisement content" (i.e. without that Kickstarter part i guess) shouldn't be offensive, and it could link to appropriate productions entry and/or Ensemble 101 website to give more info.
Actually, i think it would be a good change for the news column itself. Currently it contains dozens of "new unstable/RC XYZ" notes and almost nothing else. Adding information on (important) publications and events (GSOC, when the results are officially announced?) would not only benefit our comminuty, but also make better impression on visitors. Currently it looks like nothing interesting happens here - at least not interesting for people outside the dev team/hardcore users (and they use mailing list, not news on front page...)
