What's with the translate_scale_rotate stuff? You only ever use the scale components, and it does not appear like the axis of the transform (and consequently of the scale components) are put to any use. And it also looks like this depends on a certain form of the transform matrix (not being happy with skew matrices, for example). That looks fishy.
