Ah, do I love those French-speaking! Not everything derives from your great 
language ;-)
No, "ca." comes from the Latin word "circa", meaning around, both in a spacial 
sense, as well as about (as in "about 15 minutes")...

BTW, adding "ca." or ranges to tempo marks is something I would like to have 
eventually, but right now that's a little out of reach (save using explicit 
markups)...
