I'm also unhappy with this fix, although for completely different reasons. There's no good reason to increase the line-width. 1) if the larger line-width looks good on all output, then it should be the default. 2) if it doesn't work on *all* outputs... HTML, info, pdf, pdf printed on A4, pdf printed on USletter, HTML on a screen with 800 pixels wide... then the music should be changed to fit the available space. A thorough examination of the lilypond-book paper options for the docs would be a bit more work than I think we want to do at the moment. I've added it as issue 1015.
