It's hard to diagnose problems without an example, but is the top
note in both chords the same? If not, perhaps you mean to use a
slur, not a tie. Also, questions like this should go to the user
mailing list, lilypond-u...@gnu.org. I recommend you send a
minimal example to the user list.
