Having a dual boot Macbook Pro (Leopard / Ubuntu 8.10), I can see that
the PPC version runs much slower than the linux version when I need to
compile big scores (Rosetta or ubuntu just rocks? ;)...
Files of any size always compile slower on my Macs, too, but it's most
noticeable on the really big scores. A number of folks on the list have
said that they got blazing speed on their macs by building from source,
which I've tried and failed to do b/c of problems getting/installing the
dependencies from MacPorts and Fink. :(
Is it possible to publish the Leopard compiled for an Intel Mac without
the gui?
If there were a build specifically for command-line Mac that ran as fast
as the Linux version I would LOVE it! I never use the GUI anyway... I
would even offer small bounty if necessary ($25?).
