Thanks Valentin, LGTM.
I've made a few tweaks, attached, which I think sharpen it a bit.

2008/9/22 Graham Percival <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
I've read plenty of release announcements, but my reaction is
different -- marketing make feel greasy and icky. I had five
years of training to be as precise as possible in my analytic
philosophy degree; I hate empty phrases like "50 new features".
Oh, come on. I hate marketing as much as you do, but we are not
selling anything to people who don't need it. We've had this debate
many times, and you know how important I think it is to raise people's
enthusiasm in such projects.
If we'd finished GDP months ago and had begun a GWP, these would
be in the official FAQ (and most of the current questions in the
FAQ would be gone). But since we didn't, they aren't.
Yeah, tell me about it... (sigh)
Anyway, here's a beta release announcement full of empty happy
stances; hope you guys enjoy it :-)
Cheers,
Valentin

*LilyPond version 2.12 available -- 12 year anniversary release*
http://lilypond.org
We are proud to announce the release of GNU/LilyPond 2.12 "Rune".
Our joy is tinged with sadness, as long-time LilyPond contributor
and friend Rune Zedeler passed away on the 2nd of July, 2008. This
release is dedicated to him.
Rune was a computer programmer, a musician and a valued contributor
to LilyPond. He had been enthusiastically involved in the project
for the past six years, and he will be sorely missed in our community.
*Major updates*
- Collision detection has been vastly improved. Most graphical score
objects now avoid each other, so far fewer manual tweaks are required
to correct layout problems.
- Our online documentation is now generated by a new system that
makes it simpler to browse... and much better-looking. It has never
been easier to get started with 'Pond!
- The documentation itself has been almost entirely rewritten as
part of the LilyPond Grand Documentation Project: this year-long
project involved over 20 people updating, clarifying, and writing
new documentation. Translation teams have also been working hard
everywhere in the world: the program is now available in 15
languages, and the documentation is partially available in French,
Spanish and German.
- There is more: a huge number of bugs have been fixed, and countless
exciting new features have been implemented. Since we can't decide
which ones you'll enjoy the most, have a look at the full list at
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.11/Documentation/topdocs/NEWS.html and
let us know!
[include THANKS here]
