\drums ?

Mats or anyone who knows

There is an example in the percussion section of the NR which uses \drums. 
It still works, but it seems to me that this might be an old notation now 
replaced by \drummode.  Could someone please confirm this is so, or give me 
an explanation of when \drums should be used if it is not deprecated.
