No, but this is a problem about documentation (which was the
motivation for the question). Now that I know the answer, I can
phrase the docs to explain this.
I'm not exactly sure what your "No" refers to. Both e'1 and {e'1}
constitute music expressions. Consider for example the following
situations:
\relative c' {
\repeat volta 2 e1 | \grace c8 d1 |
}
where you don't need the curly braces around e1 and c8, respectively.
(Sorry Graham, I know that you know these things, just wanted to
clarify to Francisco and other reading this thread).
