I've seen these in piano music. It can mean "play these notes with
the same hand", so i suppose it's logically similar to guitar barring.

Just out of interest - I'm trying to learn guitar, and I've got up to
barring - the book I have indicates these by text-spanner type things -
horizontal dotted lines...<flicks through book... oh yes, I see it's
shown the bracket as an alternative...>
