If I'm not mistaken, in that case (perhaps less than all?) the source
code is released under an open source license, but builds are under a
proprietary license (a similar example is OpenJDK and the Oracle JDK).

Hence the VScodium project, which produces open source-licensed
binaries of the VScode source code
(https://github.com/VSCodium/vscodium?tab=readme-ov-file#why-does-this-exist).
