Simon, thanks for your reminder. I do not believe there has been any formal statement from OSI regarding proprietary software used in conjunction with open source software. Many approved open source licenses, however, already do deal in various ways with that relationship. Please confirm that.
As for AI: I do not believe that Alexa has identified its open source software components. Nor do I believe that Microsoft has disclosed its use of AI software in Edge. Any effort by OSI to create a policy regarding AI will require more than guesswork and the random tossing of “AI” concepts under the OSI umbrella. I DO believe, however, that “license-discuss” is an appropriate home for those discussions prior to the possible “official” adoption of a revised OSD or a different AI policy. Does this conform to what you said about this list: “Comments made by members of the list are not a reflection of OSI positions and policy, unless they're explicitly stated as official positions of OSI (approved by the board) and are sent from an opensource.org <http://opensource.org> e-mail address.” Lawrence Rosen 707-478-8932 3001 King Ranch Rd., Ukiah, CA 95482 <mailto:lro...@rosenlaw.com> lro...@rosenlaw.com From: License-discuss <license-discuss-boun...@lists.opensource.org> On Behalf Of Moderators Sent: Wednesday, November 1, 2023 12:07 PM To: license-discuss@lists.opensource.org Subject: [License-discuss] Mailing List Conduct Reminder Dear members of the license-discuss list You are reminded that OSI hosts this list as a discussion venue for topics adjacent to open source license submissions (which are addressed to the license-review list). Comments made by members of the list are not a reflection of OSI positions and policy, unless they're explicitly stated as official positions of OSI (approved by the board) and are sent from an opensource.org <http://opensource.org> e-mail address. OSI added a message to this effect at the foot of every post on the list but it seems some have overlooked this. Members of the list are also reminded of OSI's policy on the conduct of discussions on this list, which can be found at https://opensource.org/codeofconduct/ Many thanks, Simon (Co-Moderator)
