Follow-up Comment #3, sr #111406 (group libtool): This breaks macOS: Mach-O two-level namespace linking has no ELF-style transitive resolution, so a shared library's referenced symbols must all come from directly linked libraries — with dependency_libs no longer expanded, anything linked against a .la now fails with "Undefined symbols" (e.g. every syslog-ng plugin module; 2.5.4 was fine). Could this be made conditional, e.g. skipped only when the host resolves transitive deps like ELF?
