Follow-up Comment #3, sr #111202 (group libtool): I have discovered that whenever I directly pass `-all-static` to libtool it does "The right thing" but there's no way to influence it from auto-tools from what I can see. In other words `--enable-static` does not do what it seems to be geared for, at least not fully. I'm a little fuzzy on interplay between automake/autoconf and libtool but glancing at the code it seems libtool is the one providing macros for populating libtool command invocations
