Libtool currently does not properly detect ELF Tool Chain's strip(1), and thus does not invoke strip when ELF Tool Chain is in use. Originally reported in FreeBSD here: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=198611
Xin Li posted a patch in Savannah to address it: savannah.gnu.org/patch/?8675 I followed up on libtool-patches with a slightly more compact version that I've been using: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/libtool-patches/2015-05/msg00005.html So far though there's been no reply to either. We'll probably address this with a patch in the FreeBSD ports tree in the short term. Ideally we'll apply the same change that is, or will be, applied to upstream libtool though.
