Just a FYI, this is a particularly bad "packager broke libtool" issue: the libtool15 package in the FreeBSD ports collection does not install the .la script in --mode=install! Please join my petition to have them fix it: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=76363
