Thank you for responding :) It's openSUSE 13.1-64, fully updated and gtk2-engine-oxygen/gtk2-theme-oxygen are version 1.4.4-2.4.1 (x86-64) and zypper reports there up to date. My machine at home has the same O/S and update status, with the same behaviour.
