(I assume the 4.0.4 you installed was the generic
<http://www.libreoffice.org/download> one, not one provided by Ubuntu?
In which case it would be clear why the bug disappeared then---the
generic build uses a different software stack to access Samba files than
the distro builds do, and that other stack is not affected by the issue
mentioned above.)
