        Urk - so - then I guess it is a matter of persuading each of our
captive gtk2 widgets to have the right RTL setting via:

   void gtk_widget_set_direction (GtkWidget        *widget,
                                  GtkTextDirection  dir);

        or perhaps I'm missing something ?
