There have been a couple of cases in Apache OpenOffice, where updating the user profile does not work and the program crashes on start. All cases were solved by using a new user profile. See first item in http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html#AOO3.4.1ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues
Unfortunately there exists no tool to import single items from an old user profile.
