Dear LibreOffice Developers,
I am using LibreOffice for many years, and formerly I used FreeOffice.
Honestly spoken, I am using this software more likely than M$ Office as
I do so for other software, too, e.g. better an old version of
Embarcadero's (= Borland's) GodeGear than M$ Visual C++. In mz opinion,
it's better to bite any other bullit rather than M$ products, if
available ...
BUT:
The LibreOffice user community has to live with some (I guess it's a lof
of) BUGS which you don't consider being such because the program does
not terminate abnormally:
The developer list is for development, not user support or bug reports.
Please in the future use a user mailing list, the Ask LibreOffice forums
or TDF Bugzilla. I will reply anyway.
- When the user (note: the USER in general, not just me) wants to change
the size of an image embedded in the text, it is quite normal (and I
guess in most of all occurances) he wants to keep the aspect ratio of
that when scaling. However, each time doing so, one must tick the
related checkbox in the dialog box for the first time in the program
session. This is totally annoying, particularily when you forget that.
There is a relevant request "UI: Remember setting of "keep ratio"
checkbox and Save value in ODF file"
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84565
- When a frame is inserted in another frame, it is not possible to place
the inner frame at the bottom of the outer frame although this is
offerred. This problem is known to me in the last release of version 5
(which I am using at home) and continues to exist at least up to the
latest release of version 7 (which a am using in my job).
I could not find a report for this, so please create it in Bugzilla with
enumerated steps on how to reproduce and also mention, if it worked in
some older version (then the cause can be found).
- Positioning of images or of frames in general is really poor.
You can create a request with ideas in Bugzilla and the UX team can
evaluate it.
- Dealing with formatting of parapraphs is unclear and will sometimes
lead to strange and unexplainable results due to thousands of formats
available which are combined, preceded and successed by each other.
It is not clear, if you are handling formatting via direct formatting or
via styles. Prefer styles whenever possible and for serious work. Again,
if you have ideas, submit to Bugzilla.
Instead of providing solutions for that, you are constantly working on
USELESS gimmicks and doing other waste of time, such as
- large document preview icons distributed on the whole screen when no
document is loaded,
That's the Start Center, considered very useful by many users. If you
don't like the thumbnails, go to Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice ->
Advanced: Expert configuration and search for RecentDocsThumbnail and
double-click it to turn it to false.
- new icons for the speedbuttons and menus coming with every new main
release,
That's nonsense. If we don't count the dark variants added along the
way, the last icon theme added was Sukapura in version 7.0, released in
2020. And you shouldn't have even noticed it, if you use Windows because
it became the default theme only for macOS.
- support for the so-called ribbon menu, the most inefficient and NON-
ergonomical user interface ever seen by now, which is a shuffled
aggregation of non-related or hidden menuitems with icons of different
sizes. Bullshit!
So others, who find an alternative UI useful should be forbidden to use
it because you don't like it? Last time I checked you were not some God
Emperor of LibreOffice, so you'd better sit down and let other people
live their lives in peace.
Never advise or recommend me to use the current release to try out
whether BUGS like those of above perhaps have been disappeared by
themselves ...
It is normal to advise such, so I don't know what your problem is with
that or why you think we would stop doing that.
